Maxine (Schwaninger) Altic

Altic, Maxine (Schwaninger)
4 Mar 1935 - 17 Jun 2010

Maxine Elner (Laaker) Altic was born on March 4, 1935 in Nickerson, Nebraska to Obert and Norma (Etchenkamp) Laaker. She grew up in western Douglas County where she attended Washington grade school and graduated from Bennington High School in 1953. As a young girl, Maxine was a cheerleader, involved in speech and drama and was salutatorian of her class.

Maxine married Burton Schwaninger on April 10, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church near Bennington and to this union two children were born: Doyle and Pam. Maxine had made her home in Bennington until her health forced her to move to Fremont.

Maxine worked for over 25 years for Western Electric, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed time with friends, Nebraska football games, cooking and dancing. She shared lunch with her friends from the Girlies Club and enjoyed dinner at Farmer Brown’s. Maxine is remembered as kind and caring woman with a stubborn streak. After Burton passed away, she worked hard to keep her family together, making sure the children had everything that they needed.

Maxine passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 13, days. She was preceded in death by her husband Burton Schwaninger, daughter Becky and mother Norma. Maxine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Doyle and Jeanne Schwaninger of Fremont, Nebraska; daughter Pam Dorau of Omaha, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; father Obert Laaker of Fremont; brother and sister-in-law Don and Myrna Laaker of Bennington; sister Betty Pruess of Bennington.
